Rev. Love named as new director of Vibrant Communities

Baltimore-Washington Conference Resident Bishop Marcus Matthews has appointed the Rev. Antoine Love, pastor of Journey of Faith Church in Waldorf, as the new conference director of Vibrant Communities, effective July 1.

Rev. Love, who is also the conference chair of the Board of Trustees, takes over from the Rev. Andy Lunt, who will return to retirement on June 30. The position will now be a full-time one.

In announcing the decision on Monday, Bishop Matthews said Rev. Love would bring a high level of energy to the position as the conference works to create new places for worship for new people and revitalize existing congregations.

Bishop Matthews noted that with any appointment, the new person brings some different gifts to the position, but “I am sure that the new director will be able to continue the work of new church starts and revitalization. “  He also assured churches that current funding levels for new church starts would be maintained.

Prior to assuming his current position at Journey of Faith, Love, who entered the ministry in 1998, served at Covenant Point in Waldorf and Zion UMC in Lexington Park.

In his new appointment, he will be building on Lunt’s ministry, which has included starting eight new faith congregations in the past two years and assisting several existing congregations with strategies for growth.
