Obituaries - March 22, 2014 - Rev. Richard W. Goode Sr.

The Rev. Richard W. Goode Sr., 65, died March 22. A memorial service was held March 30 at the Del Capri in Dundalk, with more than 100 friends and family participating.

He was born Dec. 16, 1949, to the late Edwin and Betty Goode in College Park.

Goode was ordained an Elder in 1981. From 1979 to 1982, he served the Bethesda-Zion Charge in Sykesville, then on to Severn for three years. From 1985 to 1992, he was appointed to Graceland Park, then the Abingdon Charge until 2001. He was appointed to St. Luke’s UMC in Woodlawn in 2001. Since 2005, he has been on incapacity leave.

His first marriage ended in divorce. He and Dorothy Leisher were married in April 1994 in Harford County.

For the past nine years, Goode has engaged in Bible studies and writing his family history. “He never stopped ministering to people everywhere when he encountered them,” said his wife. He enjoyed walking and spending time with family. His hobbies included cooking, wood working and playing the banjo. During baseball season he was an avid Orioles fan. He enjoyed travel, especially to Maine.

He was preceded in death by a stepfather, Murphy Armor.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Goode, and children: Kate Clift from Baltimore, Sarah Slaysman who lives in Ocean Pines, Ricky Goode (17) and Rebecca Goode (15), both of whom live in Baltimore; two grandchildren and another expected in June.
