The Rev. Carroll G. Warner Jr., 82, a retired Elder, died April 13, 2014, at his retirement home in Columbia.

Carroll Gardner Warner was born April 5, 1932.

He was ordained an Elder in 1956 and went into the U.S. Air Force as a chaplain from 1956-1959. Upon discharge, he was appointed to Camp Chapel in Baltimore, where he served until 1963. From 1963 to 1971, he pastored Ashton, then for another six years served Emmanuel UMC in Beltsville. From 1977 to 1984, he served Eutaw UMC in Baltimore, then No. Harford Charge until 1988. His last appointment was to Greenmount UMC in Hampstead where he remained until his retirement in 1992.

“Pastor Pete,” as he was known, died while kneeling at his bedside, his daughter said. “We spent the last eight months together almost every day as we journeyed through his condition. What I want you to know, is that he passed away while kneeling at his bedside - perhaps in prayer, perhaps asking to be taken to his God.”

In addition to his daughter, he is survived by a son, Stephen C. Warner in Bell Air Beach, Fla., and four grandchildren.

Condolences may be sent to his daughter: Deborah Papavizas, 6624 Rising Waves Way, Columbia, MD 21044.

Memorial gifts may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
