Mid-year moves made by Bishop

The Rev. Vance Ross has been appointed as Associate General Secretary for administration with the General Board of Discipleship, located in Nashville, Tenn.

Bishop Felton Edwin May announced the new appointment, effective Jan. 1.

Ross had been serving as pastor of First UMC in Hyattsville since 1998. He also serves as chairman of the Conference Council on Ministries, and will continue in that position until annual conference.

The Rev. Moses Sangha, vice-chair of the council, will preside in his absence, said the Rev. Donald Stewart, director of connectional ministries for the conference.

Bishop May also announced that the Rev. Rodney Smothers has been appointed senior pastor at First UMC in Hyattsville. He had served as pastor of Covenant Point UMC in Waldorf since 2001.

The Rev. Antoine Love has been appointed as pastor at Covenant Point UMC. He had served as pastor of Zion UMC in Lexington Park since 1998.
