St. Paul United Methodist Church (Lusby, MD) Senior Pastor David Graves prepares to baptize 2015 confirmand Ben Mead with assistance from Youth Pastor Dave Showalter.

St. Paul United Methodist Church in Lusby, MD celebrated baptisms, confirmations, reaffirmations of faith, and graduating seniors on Sunday May 31. Baptisans, confirmands, and those joining the church by profession of faith ranged in age from 10 to 80. The worship service began in the St. Paul Worship & Activity Center then proceeded to the banks of Mill Creek where those being baptized were immersed. The congregation followed with a celebration picnic on-site where congregants ate, visited, played, and swam in the river. “Hartlyn Turner, one of our younger baptisans asked her Dad if she could be baptized,” relates Youth Pastor Dave Showalter. “But she wanted to be baptized by immersion. Since we don’t have a baptismal pool on our campus, we began to hunt for a site and a couple who are long-time members of St. Paul heard of our search and offered their waterfront property. It is perfect, but since we serve a perfect God, that’s no surprise. One of our youth who will be attending confirmation class next year has already made us promise to return. We think God has begun a new tradition at the water for our church family.”
