United Women in Faith Projects

These projects minister to the needs of women and children in Washington, DC, the state of Maryland, and the panhandle of West Virginia. Local UMFaith units are encouraged to support these projects.

• Baltimore Parish Work, Baltimore City: Provides a unique opportunity through financial aid to enhance day camps and summer enrichment programs for youth and provide support to feeding programs, such as Manna House and Jacob's Well. Contact: Wendy Johnson, President, 443-278-6434.
• Epworth House Mission Project - Washington, D.C.: Provides yearly academic support to a selected female from overseas at Wesley Theological Seminary, Contact: Gertrude White, 301-656-9116
• Family Crisis Resource Center - Cumberland: Provides shelter and counseling to victims of domestic violence, rape, and sexual assault/abuse through intervention and prevention. Contact: Taness Cline, 301-759-9246
• Scholarship Fund - Provides financial assistance for undergraduate students who are members of United Methodist churches within the Baltimore-Washington Conference. Applications are due yearly in mid-June. Contact: Kim Marie Walker 443-534-1549
• Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (previously Shenandoah Women's Center) - Martinsburg, W.Va.: Provides counseling and shelter for sexually assaulted and abused women and children in the Tri-County West Virginia area. Contact: Kate Spriggs, 304-263-8522
• Shepherd's Staff - Westminster: Provides emergency services to children, adults, families, seniors and homeless in a spirit of compassion and respect. A few of the services are financial assistance, medical necessities, food, and clothing. Contact: Brenda Meadows, 410-857-5944
• Susanna Wesley House - Baltimore: Provides group living in a home-like setting to nine women with a modest income and their children. The women are provided schooling, job training, and counseling. Contact: Elizabeth M. Stemley 443-850-8544
• YWCA Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Domestic Violence Counseling -Arnold: Provides individual and family counseling, computer training, parenting education, mentoring after-school programs for at-risk children, and emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. • Limitless- United Methodist Women’s most recent initiative that creates a space for young women as they embody the United Methodist Women’s purpose.  Grounded in the scripture Luke 4:14, the seed event was held at Duke University in August 2012. The vision was to equip young women of faith, to transcend barriers and to do justice in their communities by putting their faith, hope, and love into action.  The event was co-planned by women of the Young Women’s Consultative Group, and each conference recommended three women – one youth (14-17), one young adult (18-30), and one adult to serve as a mentor.  The hope was (and still is) to create a multi-generational team that would envision and strategize together to engage young women across conferences.   Contact:  Shanae Als, 917-577-7504      
• Charter For Racial justice (CFRJ)- Provides plans for the implementation of the Charter, monitors conference-approved action plans to implement the Charter and regularly evaluates progress made on conference, district, and local implementation plans.   Contact:  Kim Marie Walker 443-534-1549
