The morning session Thursday included greetings from and to many honored guests. Among them were a delegation from Korea and the Mayor of Washington, D.C.

Introduced by the Rev. Joe Daniels, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser came to the podium.  “She has created opportunities for those living on the margins,” Daniels said.

The mayor acknowledged the city has challenges – growing inequality, homelessness and hunger – but, she said, “I’ve counted on support from the faith community to meet all these challenges.” The solutions are often done through the Washington Interfaith Network, which includes the UMC. “If you can’t feed 100 people, just feed one,” Bowser urged. “We believe everybody should have a fair shot.”

Six pastors and two lay people from Korea who were visiting as part of the partnership with the South Conference of the Korean Methodist Church, were introduced.
