Alison Burdett has been named Director of Communications for the Baltimore-Washington Conference, following eight months of faithful service in the interim role.

Alison brings 13 years of experience within the Conference’s Communications Department, where she has helped shape and share the stories of how God is at work across the conference. In her previous role as Digital Engagement Manager, she led efforts to strengthen the conference’s digital presence and develop meaningful content through clear and compelling communication.

With a background in graphic design and photography, Alison also brings a creative lens to communications, believing that visual storytelling can reveal God at work, stir emotion, help people feel seen, and inspire others to see what’s possible for their own discipleship journey.

Grounded in her faith, Alison views communications as her vocation and ministry. Raised Catholic, she felt a call to The United Methodist Church through her participation in the Appalachia Service Project during her high school years, where she experienced firsthand the power of putting faith into action. That foundation continues to shape her work today.

Alison is also a daughter of the Eastern Shore, which has been a blessing for our affiliation and now Episcopal Area as we seek to understand the breadth and depth of voices within our Area.

The conference has been blessed by Alison’s gifts and creativity in every position she has held. Throughout her tenure, Alison has collaborated across teams and ministries to elevate local church stories, support conference initiatives, and equip leaders with tools to communicate effectively. Her team spirit, creative insights, and ecumenical background combine to bring a unique perspective to our communications ministry. In her new role, Alison will continue to lead the conference’s communications strategy with a focus on informing, equipping, and inspiring members of the conference and beyond to support the UMC’s vision to love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously.

As we continue to live into God’s preferred future for our denomination and our Area, Alison’s wisdom, theological insight, and ability to help bridge generational perspectives will be a gift. We are grateful for the leadership, creativity, and deep commitment she brings to this work.

Alison lives with her husband and their two children, who further inspire her creativity and bring great joy to their home.
