Saturday, September 12, 2020, 9:30 AM - 8:00 PM
The 236th annual session of the Baltimore-Washington Conference will be held online Sept. 12. This move to a virtual annual conference is made necessary by the coronavirus pandemic and the need for social distancing as the church seeks to privilege life, especially among its vulnerable members.
The session will be live-streamed by Good News TV, which will also oversee electronic voting. Clergy and lay members will receive information by email, which will include a voting ID number. A practice run of the voting procedure will be held for all members prior to the Sept. 12 session.
This mandatory training will be held Sept. 3 at 6 p.m.; Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. and Sept. 10 at 5 p.m.
The gathering time on Sept. 12 begins at 9 a.m. with a short worship service at 9:10 a.m. The Clergy Session will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 12. The essential business of the Annual Conference, which will include the consideration of the 2021 budget, will be conducted in the afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. The Service of Ordination and Commissioning will be held at 6 p.m.
The Laity Session, celebration of retirees, and other events traditionally held at Annual Conference is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon.
While this arrangement is not optimal, care is being taken to respond to the conditions in this extraordinary season with grace and sacred intent, and holy conferencing.
To address requirements in the Book of Discipline involving delegates and the General Conference, the 2021 Annual Conference Session will be held in the Fall, sometime following the postponed 2020 General Conference (scheduled for Aug. 31-Sept. 10, 2021) and before Jurisdictional Conference, scheduled for Nov. 10-12, 2021.
