Ruby Mae Hanson Price

Ruby Mae Hanson Price, 82, of Westminster, died Oct. 24, 2018, at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.  She was married to the late Rev. John Olan Price who died in 2005. A Service of Life, Death and Resurrection was held at Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster Nov. 2, with Chaplain Jimmie Schwartz officiating. Private interment is at Grace UMC Cemetery on Black Rock Road in Hampstead.

Ruby Mae Hanson was born June 26, 1936, in Clintonville, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Cecil Bernard Hanson and Anna Mary Armentrout Hanson.  She graduated from Westminster High School in 1954, attended Fort Wayne Bible College and Houghton College in Houghton, New York

She and John Price met in high school and married in 1958 when he graduated from Houghton College.

Between the years 1960 – 1999, Ruby Price served with her husband at many churches in the Baltimore-Washington Conference. These included Pipe Creek Charge, 1960-63; St. James in West Friendship, Lonaconing and Darlington UMCs, 1963-1977; then an appointment to the Taylorsville Charge in 1977. They moved to Centennial Memorial UMC in Frederick in 1989 and stayed until 1994, when he had a short stint at Providence UMC in Kemptown. In 1995 his appointment was to Severn UMC where they remained until his retirement in 1999.

She worked for much of her life as a secretary and administrative assistant and retired after 18 years at the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension Service.  After moving to Carroll Lutheran Village, she enjoyed volunteering in the Chaplain’s office. 

Her two passions were sewing and gardening. She was particularly proud of her extensive flower gardens at her home in Seaford, Delaware. Her family was a continual source of joy for her.  She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include four children: Timothy “Tim” David Price and wife Vanlalsiam (V.L.)  of Libertytown; Loretta Ewell and husband Gary of Millsboro, Del.; Linda Anne Price of Chesterfield, Va.; Karen Price Koch and husband Jeffrey of Ashburn, Va.; and five grandchildren. Three sisters also survive.
