Rev. William Waring Ehlers

The Rev. William Waring Ehlers, 95, died Feb. 28, 2019. A funeral service was held March 12 at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory in Winfield.

William Waring Ehlers was born Feb.23, 1924, in Baltimore, the son of the late William Charles Ehlers and the late Marian Crumbacker Ehlers.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Ehlers served a number of churches for nearly 40 years. These included Pipe Creek, 1952-55; Graceland Park, 1955-59; Ferndale, 1959-62; Forest Hill, 1962-68; Grace UMC at Falls Road, 1968-71; Stone Chapel-St. James in Westminster, 1971-73; Oakland in Sykesville, 1973-77; the Hereford-Mt. Carmel Charge, 1977-80; his last appointment to St. Paul UMC in Lusby, 1980-90, from which he retired.

He and Barbara Weaver Warfield, a widow, married in 1987 while he was serving St. Paul UMC. She was a registered nurse and church organist.

His hobbies included HAM Radio, traveling and photography.

He was preceded in death by his second wife Barbara Warfield Ehlers in 2011, and a daughter Dorothy Bennett.

Survivors include children:  Barbara Buckley (Bill) of Woodbine, Ruth Bradley (Dave) of Bowie, David Ehlers of Ellicott City, and Carol Jackson of Ellicott City; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
