Rev. Wayne Chung

The Rev. Wayne Chung, 62, pastor of Faith UMC in Rockville, died at home Jan. 13. A Memorial Service was held Jan. 18, at Faith UMC. Participating in the service were District Superintendent Gerard Green, the Revs. William Louis Piel and Joye Jones.

Wayne Wangsik Chung was born in Korea April 21, 1956. He holds degrees from Korea, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, and a Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. He was ordained an Elder in 2008.

He married Esther Chung in 1980. They have two grown children, daughter Haniee is a surgeon at Johns Hopkins and son Jim is a Federal Agent.

Chung was appointed to Faith UMC in 2018. He previously served at Rockland UMC in Ellicott City, 2005-2009; Landsdowne UMC in Baltimore 2009-2015; and Friendship UMC 2015-2018. 

In addition to his church appointments, Chung also served as Chaplain at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg.

“The real boss of the household,” says Faith UMC’s announcement of his death, “is Tank, a seven-year-old Shi Tzu.

Survivors include his wife Esther Chung, daughter Dr. Haniee Chung; son Jim Chung and his wife Tohfa.
