Rev. Lloyd C. McClarren

The Rev. Lloyd C. McClarren, 91, a retired Associate Member, died Feb. 8, 2018 in West Decatur, Pa. A memorial service was held at Salem UMC in West Decatur, Feb. 17, a church he belonged to for many years. Pastor Michael Knepp officiated.

Lloyd McClarren was born in West Decatur Dec. 4, 1926, to the late Maynard and Hazel (Williams) McClarren. He had eight siblings. He was a graduate of the former Philipsburg High School, and graduated from Pennsylvania State University in agriculture in 1951. He graduated from Evangelical School of Theology in Myerstown, Pa., in 1965.

Before entering the ministry, he served in the U.S. Army and was an agricultural teacher.

He originally served in the Central Pennsylvania Conference, then came into the Baltimore-Washington Conference in 1970 to pastor the Clarksburg Circuit for three years. From 1973 to 1982, he was appointed to St. Paul’s UMC in Baltimore. His next appointment was Grace UMC in Cumberland, 1982088; then to the Wesley Charge in Cumberland until his retirement in 1990.

He was first married to Jane (Schucker) McClarren, then the Rev. Eleanor (Diggs) McClarren, both of whom preceded him in death.  He had two children, a daughter Linda Lee and a son, Dennis McClarren, both also preceded him in death.

He married Evelyn (Smeal) Undercofler on Valentine’s Day 1995, and she survives. Also surviving are three sisters, a brother and a daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Undercofler.
