Tom's Creek Bike Ride

Tom’s Creek UMC cancelled their Sunday School and its second worship service on April 24,
to be able to host a rest stop for the Face of America riders. They were offering food, facilities,
and a place to rest and reenergize before continuing on their journey.

May 18 - Last day to register online and the last day to pay registration balance.

Transportation to Annual Conference:
Buses – A bus will be available. They will leave on June 1 and return on June 4. (You must register for the bus while registering for conference).
Metro Station - There is a metro stop at the bottom of a hill from the hotel. It is the Woodley Park-Zoo Metro Station.
Parking Options - Please use the link above to see where to park once you arrive at Annual Conference.

Hotel: Dawn Reidy has a hotel room available at the Marriott for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. She now has a roommate and cannot use this room. If you are interested please contact Dawn directly at .

Volunteer Opportunities: Many United Methodists assist with the smooth operation of the Conference Sessions by volunteering. You do not need to be a member of the Annual Conference to give of your time. Among the opportunities for volunteering are: Highlighters, Pages and Tellers, Ushers and Marshalls, The Prayer Room. GENERAL CONFERENCE




The 2016 General Conference of The United Methodist Church starts tomorrow, May 10, at 5 p.m. Eastern, with opening worship. It, along with most of the worship and plenary sessions, will be live-streamed. Watch the live stream here .

The Baltimore-Washington Communications Ministry Team is in Portland, Ore., and will be bringing you news, updates and other information throughout the 10-day conference.

There are several ways to stay connected to what's happening:

    • BWC blog, "Thus We Went" - Our five bloggers for GC2016 are: the Rev. Erik Alsgaard, editor in the Ministry of Communications department; Dr. Ella Curry, who serves the BWC on the Episcopacy Committee, the Board of Quality of Life Retreats, and the Conference Commission on Religion and Race; the Rev. Laura Easto, superintendent of the Baltimore Suburban District; Melissa Lauber, director of communications for the BWC; and the Rev. Maidstone Mulenga, assistant to the bishop and director of Connectional Ministries.

 

    • We'll be updating our Facebook page several times a day, as well as sending out information on our Twitter feed.

 

    • Our home page for all things General Conference contains links to everything above, and more, including how to get the free General Conference app for your mobile device or tablet.

Fund Balance Reports: The Fund Balance Reports are due June 30 and can be found on the BWC Website > Resources > Forms, Reports and Requests. The form is available in Word, Excel and PDF formats.

King's Dominion: June 11 is United Methodist Day at Kings Dominion. Tickets, which can also be used June 18, 25 and July 2, and 9, are $34. For more information, contact Deb Trowbridge at 410-290-7302. Print out this flyer to hang in your church.

Imagine No Malaria: This is the last pledge year for Imagine No Malaria. Please look at your finances and see where your pledge stands at this moment. If your church has a remaining balance then please send it in as soon as possible.

Pentecost Unity Service – Asbury, Charles Town, W.VA, May 15, 10 AM
Asbury UMC in Charles Town WV invites our entire community to join us as we celebrate the Church’s birthday on Sunday; May 15th with a special Pentecost Unity Service. This single service at 10 AM will feature special music, readings, a dynamic sermon and much, much more. Everyone is then invited to join in for a time of fellowship following the service. 225th Anniversary Weekend Celebration – Asbury, Charles Town, W. VA, June 25 – 26
Asbury UMC in Charles Town WV, will celebrate its 225th Anniversary during the weekend of June 25-26, 2016. We have planned an exciting event that will include something for everyone. On Saturday; June 25th (10am-4pm), the entire community is invited to join in as Asbury hosts a catered block party celebrating their involvement in the life of the Jefferson County community. We will have activities for kids, displays of the church’s historical artifacts and a tour of the Asbury facilities. We will also conduct lectures on Methodism’s first American Bishop Francis Asbury (our namesake), the history of the United Methodist Church and Asbury UMC. On Sunday, June 26 at 10am, we will conclude our weekend celebration with a special worship service to rededicate Asbury into the Lord’s Service.
