Church Conference

As you know the Annapolis District is well under way with church conference clusters.  Please be sure to look at the checklist and bring all documents that are required for your church conference packet.  Please also make sure that all documents that need to be signed are signed prior to your church conference cluster.  To better understand what documents are needed for your packet, please see the Church Conference checklist here.

Join in the newest BWC study: 'Who are We?'

 

Every church is encouraged to participate in the new six-week study, "Who Are We as the People of God?" This introspective analysis of head and heart begins the week of Oct. 13 with a exploration led by Bishop LaTrelle Easterling on the nature of God.

 

Sessions on Who are We as United Methodists and Who are We as the people of the Baltimore-Washington will begin in January and during Lent.

reCall Summit adds new workshops

 

 

Three new powerful workshops have been announced for the

reCall Summit 3.0, which will be held Oct 18 and 19 at St. Mary's Ecumenical Institute in Baltimore. These transformative learning experiences include Eileen Guenther on "Protest Music and Spirituals in the Civil Rights Movement;" the Rev. C. Anthony Hunt on the "Art of Prophetic Writing and Teaching;" and spoken word artist Kezia Snipes on "Speaking Poetic Truth to Power."

 

The keynote speaker for the event is David Anderson Hooker of Just Peace, who for more than 30 years has utilized his training and expertise in conflict transformation by serving as mediator, community builder, scholar, and advocate.

Local Church Events:

 

  • Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 1010 Wrighton Road, Lothian, Maryland, will be celebrating our 180th Church Anniversary on Sunday, October 27, 2019, with a special service at 3:00 p.m.  Everyone is invited to come and celebrate with us!

 

 

  • Sollers UMC, 1219 Wrighton Road in Lothian, will hold a Veterans' Day tribute Sunday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m., and observe the church's 145th anniversary that afternoon at 3 p.m.

Leadership Development 

  • The Living Your Call Summit is this Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the BWC Mission Center in Fulton. The keynote speaker will be Chaplain Stephen Faller, a pastor from New Jersey who has cerebral palsy and who will share unique insights into call and the chaplaincy. He is author of "Christianity and the Art of Wheelchair Maintenance." This summit, open to those who are discerning a call to ministry and to those mentoring others experiencing a call, will combine learning about practical steps for pursuing consecrated, licensed or ordained ministry with a time of worship and discernment and meaningful conversation.   • Have questions about your health or pension benefits? The annual election process is Oct. 30 to Nov. 14. The BWC Benefits Office is offering benefit consultations on each of the eight districts from Oct. 1 through Nov. 7. An online listing provides more information and a sign-up sheet. Questions?   • "revitup!" is a benefits and financial educational event for clergy ages 25-39, and will be held Oct. 28 to 30, in Baltimore. This event is sponsored by Wespath, and scholarships are available to cover registration fees and two nights at the Sheraton Inner Harbor. Complimentary childcare is also available. Learn more.   

Young People's Ministry

  • Youth: Your voice matters! As the BWC seeks to create its Student Leadership Cohort program, they are seeking the input of highs school students. High school students are invited to take this  90-second survey.
  • Fall Youth Worker Training, Saturday, Oct. 12, at Asbury UMC in Arnold, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Led by Kyndra Davis, this training will provide you with the basics of mental health, what it may look like, how it can affect you, how to manage it, as well as managing your own self-care amid caring for others. You will also learn information about the different populations that are affected and how to help. Cost: $10. Learn more and register.  Registration closes Thursday, Oct. 10.
  • Registration is now open for ROCK 2020, which will be held Feb. 7-9 at the convention center in Ocean City. Learn about this life-transforming event at www.bwcumc.org/rock.
