Rev. William “Carl” Zinn

The Rev. William “Carl” Zinn, 81, of Hagerstown, died Jan. 2, 2019.  A Memorial Servicewas held Jan. 12, 2019, at Washington Square UMC in Hagerstown, with Pastor Jerry Lowans and Hospice Chaplain Jeff Casto officiating.

Carl Zinn was born Aug. 24, 1937, the son of the late T.S. “Ted” Zinn and Alma “Becky” (Rechtine) Zinn Martin.

He graduated from Kingwood High School of Kingwood, W. Va. He graduated from Cumberland United Methodist College in Kentucky and received his M. Div. from Methodist Theological School in Delaware, OH.

Before college and seminary, he served four years in the United States Air Force.

He was also a city councilman for four years in Dunbar, W.Va.

Before coming to the Baltimore-Washington Conference, he served North Troy UCC in North Troy, Vermont, Newport Center UMC in Newport Center, Vermont, and Christ Reformed UCC in Cavetown, Md. His appointments in the Baltimore-Washington Conference were to Shiloh UMC in Hagerstown, 1992-1998; and Araby UMC in Frederick, 1998 until he retired in 2002.

He was a member of American Legion Post 28 in North Troy, Vt., and AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jay W. Martin; and one brother, Charles Deacon Zinn.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn J. Zinn; daughter, Debra White of East Liverpool, Ohio; stepson, W. Scott Harrington of West Roxbury, Mass.; stepdaughter, Colynda J. Lucas of Ohio; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
