Eleanor Rose Emerick

Eleanor Rose Emerick, 90, the wife of the Rev. Louis L. Emerick, died Oct. 5, 2018, at Fahrney Keedy Village. A funeral servicewas held Oct.10, 2018, at Emmanuel UMC in Hagerstown where she was a member. The service was officiated by the Rev. Randall Reid and nephew the Rev. Mark Brooks.

Eleanor Rose Emerick was born Feb. 1, 1928, at the Rose Meadow Farm in Eckhart, the daughter of William and Emma Nelson Engle. She and Louis Emerick were married in 1947 and shared 72 years of marriage before her death, 56 years of them spent in the ministry.

Those years included his appointments to: the Midland Charge, 1950-56; Union Grove, 1956-1959; Trinity in Cumberland, 1959-69; Berkeley Springs Charge, 1969-73; Washington Square UMC in Hagerstown, 1973-81; Glen Burnie UMC, 1981-1985; and Fallston UMC, 1985 until he retired in 1988.

Eleanor Emerick participated in each church, singing in the choirs and as a district officer in the United Methodist Women’s Society.

A special ministry of hers was to give a gift from her kitchen to each shut-in church member at Christmas and Easter.

She loved to sew and made costumes for special occasions. Some of her bicentennial garments were donated to the Fort Frederick Historical Society. She was a member of several church quilting groups.

She also served as the leader of the surplus food distribution for North Arundel County.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by eight nieces and nine nephews, including three who have followed her husband into the ministry: the Revs. Craig Emerick, Steve Emerick and Mark Brooks.
