There are many opportunities throughout the year for people to receive training and become involved with disaster relief. The Baltimore-Washington Conference itself has recently experienced tornadoes, hurricanes, floods and earthquakes. Fortunately, these disasters have been minor.

The conference and local churches need to be prepared for these disasters - volunteers have the opportunity to do this by taking the disaster response course. This program has been designed by the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) and is offered in all four regions of the Baltimore-Washington Conference. Conference personnel who have taken this program with certified trainers from UMCOR have found it to be very helpful with their understanding of how The United Methodist Church helps in all disasters.

Become part of the Early Response Team by taking this training to be prepared if a disaster strikes in your local area, your region, our conference or other conferences. Local Church Disaster Manuals are available in each church and there is now a Conference Disaster Response Manual.
