NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE
The Nominations Committee will invite nominations from across the Conference and develop a process that ensures regional, racial, gender, cultural, and congregational-size inclusiveness. The group also seeks to insure that 20-30% of the boards, committees and councils are persons under 40. The process will also call and nominate laity and clergy who:
- model discipleship;
- actively participate in and work to develop fruit-bearing congregations;
- possess the gifts, skills, experience, and track record necessary for the position;
- think and act multi-culturally;
- Demonstrate excellence in ministry and a commitment to eliminate the organizational and administrative barriers so that resources assist Conference congregations to make and engage disciples and bear Acts 2 fruit.
The Nominations Committee shall nominate according to the mandates outlined in the BOD (Book of Discipline). When the BOD does not provide specific direction about the composition and organization of a council, board, commission, or committee, the Nominations Committee shall nominate as listed below.
Membership
The Connectional Table shall be the elected persons of the Conference, team members empowered by the Conference, the district superintendents, the Conference guide staff, the Conference program staff, and the Conference senior administrative staff. The Bishop and the Conference Lay Leader will co-chair the Connectional Table.
The Discipleship Council shall have 12 members, the Conference Lay Leader and 11 people elected by the Annual Conference. The Bishop, Dean of the Cabinet, Director of Connectional Ministries and Director of Finance and Administration shall be ex-officio members of the Discipleship Council without vote. The chairperson shall be nominated by the Nominations Committee and elected by the Annual Conference. The Discipleship Council shall elect a secretary from its voting members.
Boards, Commissions and Committees, excepting the Nominations Committee, shall have seven members each unless mandated differently by the BOD. The boards, commissions and committees may add additional non-voting members to assist in carrying out its ministry. A chairperson shall be nominated by the Nominations Committee and elected by the Annual Conference Session or elected by the individual body when mandated by the BOD.
Individuals from congregations and ministries that receive Conference funding may not serve on a body that makes decisions about grantees prior to election or while serving.
Classes – Members shall be nominated to classes as mandated by the BOD. Persons elected to four year terms may serve up to two terms unless the BOD stipulates something different. If the BOD does not mandate classes or stipulate the terms of the classes for a particular body, the Nominations Committee will nominate members of a particular body into two classes of two years each. Unless the BOD mandates otherwise, each member will serve a maximum of three consecutive two year terms, for a total of up to six years. An individual may serve for a maximum of three consecutive terms. This will allow for a healthy rotation of leadership and ensure that a body will not lose more than a third of its leadership at one time.
