LaRue Eva Manhart

LaRue Eva Manhart, 93, the wife of the late Rev. George M. Manhart, died July 8, 2018, in her home. A funeral service was held July 17, at Jacob's United Church of Christ in Weissport, Pennsylvania, with Pastor Eunice Hearn officiating.

LaRue E. Stout was born in Lehighton, Pa., March 31, 1925, daughter of the late Albert Stout and Minnie (Miller) Stout-Straub. She was a 1942 graduate of the former Mauch Chunk High School and was the class treasurer. She graduated from Allentown Business School in 1943 and received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Hartford Community College in 1971.

She and George Manhart were married Christmas Day in 1947. They were married 69 years until his death in 2016.

From 1966 to 1987, he served churches in the Baltimore-Washington Conference: 1966-1969 at Idlewylde; 1969-1971 to Fallston. In 1971 he was appointed to Wesley UMC in Baltimore and remained until 1978 when he moved to Messiah UMC in Glen Burnie. He spent a year at Fulton Seimers Memorial, then was appointed in 1982 to the Bay Brook Charge, where he remained until 1987 when he retired. He died April 1, 2016.

Manhart worked as a secretary or administrative assistant for a several law firms and associations from 1943 until she retired in 1987. From 1956 to 1963 she was secretary to a Methodist Church.

Manhart was an active member of Jacob's United Church of Christ in Weissport, Pa. She was past treasurer of Jim Thorpe Alumni Association; active in women's clubs; was a volunteer for many years at the information desk at Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital in Lehighton, Pa. She belonged to several garden clubs.

Surviving are four nieces and their husbands; a nephew and his wife; and great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great-nephews.
