Bishop Easterling's statement on Annapolis shooting

Posted by Bishop LaTrelle Miller Easterling on

As the facts continue to come to light and speculation as to motives is debated, one undeniable truth confronts us all — families once again grieve and mourn the senseless loss of life in our community.

At this time, pray for those who have lost loved ones, those who are fighting for their lives, and the first responders who are rendering aid to everyone in need.

While these occurrences continue to happen with greater frequency, we cannot grow weary in well doing, and we cannot become numb to these acts of heinous violence. We must continue to stand for, work toward, model, and pour ourselves out in the service of a more loving and peaceful society.

As people of faith, we are called to put on the whole armor of God to stand against hatred and hopelessness, death and destruction, violence and vengeance, cruelty and cynicism. May we be bearers of light, love, compassion and grace.

As you search for answers and an anchor at this time of loss, may these words from Psalm 28:8 bring you comfort:

The Lord is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed.

Your servant in Christ,

Bishop LaTrelle Miller Easterling
