Arianne Hadley Lowell

Arianne Hadley Lowell, 87, the wife of the late Rev. C. Stanley Lowell and after his death for 13 years the Rev. Merrill Drennan, (d. 2000), died Oct. 28, 2017, in Kettering, Ohio. A memorial service was held Nov. 18 at Chevy Chase UMC with the Revs. Kirkland Reynolds and Carol Armstrong-Moore officiating.

Arianne Hadley was born Nov. 18, 1930, in Washington, D. C., the youngest of three daughters of Dr. Ernest E. Hadley and Agnes H. Hadley. She was a lifelong District and Chevy Chase, Md., resident.

Lowell was a professional alto soloist for 53 years, 24 of them at Chevy Chase UMC. She was also a soloist with the choir at Metropolitan Memorial (now National) UMC, where Drennan was senior pastor from 1967-73; and other Washington area churches. She also sang at many hotels, embassies and supper clubs in the Washington area.

Working as a model in 1949, she was “Miss Washington Redskin” and made appearances on behalf of the team.

She was a lifelong member of the Friday Morning Music Club and the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her daughter Arianne Parker Lowell in 2011.

Survivors include son Ernest H. Lowell and his wife of Rochester, NY; daughter Cadance Lowell and husband of Dayton, Ohio; step-daughters Marilyn Drennan Brus and husband of New York, and Kathleen Drennan and husband of Arlington, Va.; and 10 grandchildren and step grandchildren.

Memorial contributions to CCUMC, 7001 Connecticut Ave., Chevy Chase, MD 20815, will be directed to the Dr. Ernest E. Hadley and Agnes Marie Hadley Choir Fund.
