Committee on Native American Ministries
Mission Statement:
By the Grace of God, the CONAM of the Baltimore Washington Conference will serve as the voice of the Native Americans in this conference so that their presence and their cultural diversity will strengthen the connectional relationship that Christians have with the Church.
About Us:
Our CONAM is very active in the Northeast Jurisdictional Native American Task Force (NEJNATF). One of the purposes of the task force is to help establish and maintain CONAMs in all of the Conferences in the Northeast Jurisdiction.
There are two outreach ministries that we support – A prison ministry where we send copies of “Indian Life Ministries”, a Native American Christian newspaper. Currently we are sending subscriptions to 4 prisons in Maryland, 3 which house males and 1 which houses females.
The second major outreach ministry is the continued support of the WINS program that is sponsored by the American University in Washington, D.C. The program offers classes and internships for qualified Native students during the fall, spring, and summer sessions. As an example CONAM provides an emergency fund for students who may have to return home for a while or who have issues while in the D.C. area.
CONAM is small but hardworking and would welcome anyone who would wish to join a small, but mission-driven committee.
We give thanks to the Great Spirit for all the opportunities we have been given and eagerly anticipate building on what we do. Please continue to support the Native American Ministries Sunday Offering, half of which supports the ministry that we do in the Master’s name.
Our Goal:
The goal of the Committee on Native American Ministries is to relate to Native Americans residing within the bounds of the Baltimore Washington Conference, who are members of faith communities within and outside of The United Methodist Church for the purpose of becoming partners in ministry and to promote awareness of Native American presence.
