Registration
Online registration: $35 if registering online and paying by credit card. You will need your Gateway user name and password to log in or you may create a new online account. If you have forgotten your user name click "forgot" and it will be sent to your e-mail account.

Paper registration: $40 if registering using the paper registration and paying by check. Check and paper registration cannot be completed online. Download paper registration and paper brochure.

Space is limited - no walk-in registration the day of the event.

There will be no refund once registration is closed. In the case of any emergency contact your Associate Dean.

You are responsible for obtaining your own required materials and books.

Basic Lay Speaking

 

Study 101 - Lay Speaking Ministries - Basic Course - This basic course is the foundation for all the other texts in the Learning & Leading Series for lay speakers. Lay speakers are encouraged to recognize and employ personal spiritual gifts for the church in order to use them as God fully intended. Participants are invited to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices and being part of a group that holds members accountable in discipleship. It offers guidelines for best practices as a church leader and outlines a number of ministries in which you as lay speakers may assume roles. Hynson offers a teaching plan and outline for lay speaker certificate renewal and/or a ten-hour continuing education course that addresses the teaching of adults. Study 202: Lay Speakers' Refresher Course- Concepts in Leadership 1 (DRPDF7)--(These courses are available only through the Upper Room bookstore. Call 1-800-972-0433 for ordering information and to obtain books.) Courses designed to prepare church leaders to focus on their roles as spiritual leaders and to function as role models or examples for others in the congregation. Although these courses were designed as refresher courses for local church lay speakers, they may be used for leadership development in any setting.
