Mission Opportunities

The United Methodist churches of the Washington DC area are opening our doors to youth, young adults and adults to be part of the change happening in our nation during the 2009 Presidential Inauguration Weekend.  This weekend of activities, termed “Be the Change You Want to See” was initiated to direct attention to a larger message of change beginning with each of us through acts of service and mercy.   Join these conference-wide mission opportunities.

Nothing but Nets
Every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria. And every day 25 million pregnant African women risk severe illness and harm to their unborn children from a malaria infection.  During the first 100 days of 2009, the Baltimore-Washington Conference is raising funds to supply 2,009 nets. Send a net. Save a life.  A donation of $10 to Nothing But Nets covers the cost of purchasing a long-lasting insecticide-treated bed net, distributing it and educating communities on its use.  Get involved at www.nothingbutnets.net.  A special collection will be taken during the service and concerts held throughout Inauguration Weekend.

A Fundraising tool kit can be used by your church in planning fundraising activities.

Conference-wide food drive
Churches throughout the Baltimore-Washington Conference will be collecting food and distributing to local food banks.  Find out if your church is participating or get involved by starting a food drive at your church.
