Board of Church and Society

The Board of Church and Society's disciplinary role is to develop and promote programs on church and society within the bounds of the Baltimore-Washington Conference that include prison ministry and reform concerns, and develop programs that provides education and action on issues confronting the church consistent with the Social Principles and the policies adopted by the General Conference.

In this conference, it is related to the Discipleship Ministries Area, whose tasks is to resource congregations to become like Christ and to call, equip, send and support disciples to build Acts 2 churches.

In keeping with these tasks, the board has identified its vision as developing a "critical mass" of local congregations that will be involved in a pro-active Discipleship Adventure through justice ministries and advocacy for transformation of the world. Its mission is to equip and support local congregations to be involved in pro-active justice ministries through education and advocacy.

The board understands "justice ministries" to be working in the name of Jesus to change legislation, systems, structures, and practices considered unjust and oppressive to others.
