Increase Your Church’s Ability to Raise More Money for Mission and Ministry.

Experience best financial stewardship practices from clergy and laity in the field. Learn about electronic giving, successful stewardship campaigns for today’s church, and learn about characteristics of today’s givers. Particularly how to cultivate planned gifts in the local church. You will learn best practices from leaders that have accomplished this.
Rev. Dr. Karin Walker is the Senior Pastor at Fallston UMC and MAUM Foundation Board Member and Chair of the 2020 Visioning Committee for the MAUM Foundation. Jack Brooks is the Executive Director of the MAUM Foundation and former partner Borer Denton Wealth management firm. Jack is a Certified Retirement Counselor and Certified Financial Planner.

Navigating the Changing Leadership Landscape.

The missional why is providing the participants an opportunity to realign current leadership assumptions.  The participants will be lead through five stages of leadership resurgence; innovation, discovery, relevance, creation and introduction.  The primary resources for this workshop are:  Canoeing The Mountains: Christian Leadership In Unchartered Territory and The Coaching Habit:  Say Less, Ask More & Change the Way You Lead Forever.
Rev. Dr. Rodney Smothers is the Director of Leadership and Congregational Development who has coached and consulted with leaders across the country.

#SEEALLTHEPEOPLE: Creating an Intentional Discipleship Pathway.

The mission of the church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world but so many of our churches do not have a clear understanding of what that means and how they are organizing themselves to make that happen. Discover a variety of ways faith communities across the connection are doing this including some of BWC’s very own and have time to begin sketching out how to develop a meaningful pathway in your context.

Holding Critical Conversations in Love.

The new commandment speaks to us loving one another as Jesus loves us – and in doing so, the world will know that we are His disciples. Learn to speak with a heart at peace instead of a heart at war so that relationships in families, churches, communities, denominations and nations and the world might be strengthened.
Rev. Barbara Lemmel is an elder in the New England Conference, the Coordinator of New England Parish Consultants and Director of Tending the Fire (a clergy and lay formation process nurturing wise, resilient leadership for changing times). This past year, she has worked with both our Extended Cabinet, our delegation to General and Jurisdictional Conference, and will be the keynote speaker for the laity session this year.

NOTE:  The workshops below are 70 minutes each. You may mix and match any 9:30 workshop with any 10:50 workshop at registration. Each of these mini-workshops cost $20.

Worship Incubator: Centers of God's Abundance, Inspiration, Innovation and Social Justice. What is God calling you to do at the risk of making God's justice known in the world? Come ready to unpack what it means to be worship incubator, explore y/our God identity, God's vision of abundant life, what it means to be a center for God; and, how together we can, as a gathering of God followers empowered by God's spirit, gain tools to be the changemaker God and the world so desperately calls for in such a time as this.

Leading Beyond the Walls through Faith-based Community Organizing

God's vision for transformation is rooted in justice, peace, and liberation. Learn how to engage others in creating positive change for our church and community. 

This workshop will introduce basic principles for organizing rooted in biblical justice. Find out how to build relational culture, foster collaborative partnerships, and take strategic action toward a more just and equitable society.

Rebecca Cole serves as the Director of Organizing for the General Board of Church and Society in Washington, DC. She engages, trains and equips United Methodist leaders and congregations in organizing for justice on the local, states/regional and national levels.


Building Beloved Community: A Toolkit

Engage in practical approaches for developing and deepening authentic community in various contexts, across various forms of difference and change. We are called to continue the work of Beloved Community that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King began through mediation, public witness, and community partnerships. Join this workshop to expand the tools you have available for this critical work.

Rev. Dr. Anthony Hunt is the Pastor of Epworth Chapel UMC in Baltimore, a prolific author and adjunct professor at Wesley Theological Seminary.




Clergy Taxes

What makes clergy taxes unique and how can you to make it work for you? Topics include housing allowance, parsonage, 2018 tax law changes, employee vs. self-employed status, reduce tax today and not pay it back, control estimated tax to avoid surprises, get the most from pastor expenses, electing out of Social Security, and resources available to help when you need it. Question/answer period will follow.
