Bishop reflects on 'being the change'
BY BISHOP JOHN R. SCHOL
The United Methodist was a beacon on the Hill and throughout all of DC during the inauguration weekend. Forty of our congregations demonstrated radically hospitality, passionate worship, intentional faith development, risk taking mission and extravagant faith sharing.
The nation came to Washington and BWC opened its arms and welcomed everyone. Members of the new administration, United Methodists from across the Nation and people in general shared their heart felt thanks for all we did to be the change we want to see.
I had the opportunity to be with thousands of people, common everyday folk and our nations leaders. We gathered together on the Capital Lawn and worshiped at the Cathedral with the new president and I believe we are witnessing a new movement in the hearts of the people and our leaders.
There is a call to service, unity, and responsibility and I am inviting all United Methodists to join with me in renewing their commitment to Jesus Christ and engaging to work together to serve God in our communities. We have challenging days ahead but together through the Holy Spirit disciples will rise up with daring and hope that will renew our communities and world.
