Church History:
The 1st church structure erected in 1870, the present building was erected in the 1890?s. The opening service was held on August 11, 1896. Officially the church is Ayres Chapel - so named for the family that was active in its early history. Dry Branch is another name by which this church is known to many people. This is the name given to the immediate community. In 1916 the present church hall was erected. The early 1970s were a time of unrest for Ayres Chapel. There was talk of closing the church due to mounting expenses and decline in attendance. The congregation voted we would remain open to serve the Lord. In 1980, Ayres Chapel and Norrisville Church were placed together and in 1997 St. Paul UMC was added to create the present day Norrisville Charge. Ayres Chapel always retained their own pastor. We began our important ministry in becoming a church who supported student pastors in 1999 with Carol Paszdersky then 2004 with Marianne Brown and in 2005 we were proud to welcome our first African American pastor; Regina Kirkland. In July 2009, we welcomed Nick Bufano to our congregation. Our worship was revamped in March of 2007 with the birth of the Dry Branch Living Water Praise and Worship services. In February of 2009 we successfully brought the second Saturday praise and worship service to the last Sunday of the month?s morning service.
