Church History:
We are part of the Deer Creek charge. Our heritage comes out of the Methodist Protestant tradition--in fact, we were the 2nd Methodist Protestant congregation ever established! Our congregation began as a Sunday School in 1826,meeting in local homes. Later, a family gave the land for the church building in the 1880s. We still use this sanctuary to this day. A small addition was added in the 1970s that included a small meeting room/Sunday School room and bathroom.
Mission Statement:
Deer Creek United Methodist Church family is empowered by the love of God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Our mission is to hear, feel, and teach the word of God, to share the word with each other, the community, the world; to live the word with our time and talents; to nurture and expand the family of God. We exist to faithfully, lovingly, and prayerfully follow the example of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Key Ministries:
We are focused on serving our immediate community in northern Harford County with some outreach globally through our faithful support of UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). We have a very active United Methodist Women's circle. We support another local church's food pantry with gifts of food, money and volunteers. We adopt a family each year for Thanksgiving and Christmas through Mason-Dixon Community Services, providing food, clothing and toys. We like to get the community involved by going door-to-door and requesting food donations. We have a jar for change to support the outreach ministries. We also have periodic community dinners or dessert festivals. Children and families are warmly welcome and integrated into our congregational life, including persons with special needs and physical limitations. We have a "one-room" Sunday School model for our pre-school and elementary aged children. Infants and youth remain in worship with their families. Our worship is vibrant and creatively traditional. Our choir provides an anthem each week.
